The inflation rate is reported to be 4.9% this month. This is not the experience most of us are having. My friend had his instant hot water heater fail last week. Located in his garage, it is a very standard installation. The first plumber he called quoted $8,500. When he picked himself up off the floor, he got online and found the hot water heater for $1200. Wow, $7,300 to install a hot water heater. Next he called a contractor friend who does heating systems and got a referral to a plumber that would give him a fair price. Certainly it is all about having the right connections. $6,500. Yes, that is $2000 less. A big savings.
He brought me the quotes and asked what I thought. I could not believe my eyes. I was astounded. I told him to order the hot water heater. It came in today, and it took me two hours to put it in, but that included a trip to Home Depot to get some fittings. Total cost $1,500. plus two hours of easy labor. That is $2,500/per hour. Maybe I should forget about writing and take up plumbing.
