Christian Values and Cryptocurrencies

Blockchain has been under attack from its earliest days. Remind you of anyone? The more people attack it, the stronger it becomes… Again, remind you of anyone? The question we have to ask ourselves as people who espouse the values of the Christian God is: does blockchain align with our values? For all of Christ’s mysteries, He, like blockchain, is an open book. Blockchain and the cryptocurrencies it enables may not be made of pure love, but they by and large offer a level of transparency unrivaled by most modern companies.

Big Tech in its crusade against the little guy, in their callous attempts to fleece and use people and their data, blockchain returns the power to the people. This aligns with the values of humility, as outlined in Christianity. In Matthew 20:26–28, Jesus teaches that true greatness is found in serving others and putting their needs before our own. By empowering individuals to take control of their own financial data, blockchain allows individuals to serve one another in a truly selfless way. Additionally, blockchain and cryptocurrencies offer financial empowerment for those who have been traditionally excluded from traditional financial systems. This aligns with the values of compassion and helping the less fortunate, as outlined in Christianity. In James 2:15–16, it states “If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?” By providing access to financial resources for those who have been excluded, blockchain is fulfilling this biblical command to care for the poor. Furthermore, blockchain offers a new level of accountability and transparency in the financial industry. This aligns with the values of honesty and integrity, as outlined in Christianity. In Proverbs 11:3, it states “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.” By promoting transparency and accountability in the financial industry, blockchain allows individuals to live out this biblical principle of integrity in their daily lives. It is important to note that just like any other technology, blockchain and cryptocurrencies can be used for both good and bad purposes. However, when used ethically and responsibly, they align with the values of Christianity. In conclusion, blockchain and cryptocurrencies have the potential to align with Christian values by offering financial empowerment, transparency, and accountability. As individuals who espouse the values of Christianity, it is our responsibility to use this technology responsibly and ethically in order to bring about positive change in the world. Additionally, it is important to note that the Bible encourages the responsible use of resources and the wise management of money, which can be achieved through the use of blockchain technology. Furthermore, the decentralized nature of blockchain aligns with the biblical principle of dispersing power among the people, rather than consolidating it in the hands of a select few.
